  • The Justice Department and the HHS Office of Inspector General launched a $4.5 billion audit of telemarketers and telemedicine companies to investigate telehealth fraud during the COVID-19 pandemic. The investigation could offer policymakers insight into the benefits and pitfalls of telemedicine as they weigh how to regulate the sector and consider permanently removing barriers to telehealth in Medicare and Medicaid that were introduced amid the pandemic.
