  • The Federation of American Hospitals (FAH) sent a letter to Congress last week urging leaders to reauthorize two rural hospital payment programs before they expire October 1. FAH President Charles Kahn III said that escalating operational costs are adding to rural hospitals’ financial pressures and that the country’s health care workforce shortage in particular is having a “devastating, disproportionate impact on rural hospitals.” Continuing the Medicare-dependent Hospital program and the Low-Volume Hospital program would help provide stability for rural hospitals and the country’s health care infrastructure.
