- The Cherokee Nation reached a $75 million settlement with opioid distributors McKesson Corp., Cardinal Health Inc., and AmerisourceBergen Corp. to resolve claims that the companies fueled prescription opioid abuse within the tribe. The settlement, the largest in Cherokee Nation history, will be paid out over six and a half years and used to fund “mental health treatment facilities and other programs to help our people recover,” Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. said in a statement.
