  • A study based on data from nearly 2.5 million Humana members suggests that low-value care is less common in Medicare Advantage (MA) than traditional Medicare. According to the study, MA enrollees received 9.2 percent fewer low-value care services – defined as tests, treatments and procedures that only marginally improve outcomes or don’t improve them at all – than those enrolled in traditional Medicare. The authors noted that despite much attention and effort over the years to make Medicare more efficient, its design is still associated with more low-value services. (Study here)
