- Congressional negotiators have reached a bipartisan deal on a sprawling omnibus package to fund the government, including an additional $15.6 billion in COVID-19 funding. The amount includes $10.6 billion for testing, therapeutics, and vaccines domestically and $5 billion for international efforts. The spending will be offset by unused aid for local governments and small businesses. Outside experts and even some Republicans acknowledge that the funding – which is half the amount that the administration originally requested – is not enough to adequately safeguard the U.S. against future waves of COVID-19.
