- The Business Group on Health’s annual survey of large employers found that employers experienced a median cost increase of 8.2 percent in 2021 – a significant rise after experiencing no increase in actual health care cost from 2019 to 2020. Still, employers expect to cover 82 percent of the cost of employee coverage in 2022. Almost all employers said they were concerned about the increasing cost of prescription drugs. They also said that long-term mental health issues, both observed and anticipated, are the leading health-related impact of the pandemic. As such, they plan to keep many pandemic-related health and well-being offerings in place for the foreseeable future. (Press release here)
