- Data analytics company Definitive Healthcare announced on Monday that it acquired fellow data firm Populi for $52 million in cash. Founded in 2020, Populi offers commercial data to help health care providers analyze their markets, understand when patients leave a service area or network for care, and target marketing campaigns. According to a spokesperson, the company’s database includes more than 180 billion health care and consumer transactions. The acquisition comes weeks after Definitive Healthcare announced a restructuring plan that included layoffs of 42 employees, or about 4 percent of its workforce, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. - The Joint Commission has acquired the National Quality Forum, to consolidate quality measures and integrate more industry voices into the development of standards. According to the groups, putting the health care improvement organization under the commission’s umbrella should reduce the burden on health systems by eliminating unaligned, competing measures and creating more streamlined and consistent clinical performance measurement. The Health and Human Services Department contracts with the forum to provide guidance on performance measure priorities to entities like the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. More than 300 organizations are members of the forum, including health systems, insurers and public health agencies. (Article here)
