- A new report from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) found that 58 percent of the health systems surveyed identified health equity as a top priority, up from 25 percent in 2019. However, many systems reported facing significant barriers, including inconsistent data collection (38 percent), lack of resources beyond funding (38 percent), lack of funding (28 percent), inability to demonstrate the impact of these works, and lack of guidance to know what to do next (26 percent). According to the report, strong partnerships with health plans can help mitigate these barriers by facilitating data exchange and setting clear standards for measuring the efficacy of health equity initiatives.
