- A superior court judge in California became the first judge to reject government claims that opioid makers should be held responsible for the addiction crisis. The judge ruled that a handful of opioid manufacturers, including Johnson & Johnson, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., Endo International PLC and AbbVie Inc.’s Allergan PLC, did not mislead doctors and patients about the painkillers. California officials sought up to $50 billion from the companies to shore up policing and treatment budgets. Their lawyers said they’ll ask an appeals court to review the decision. (Article here)
