- The Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC) released proposals for Congress as part of its March report last week and included a recommendation that would give states the power to not pay full prices under Medicaid for drugs approved under the Food and Drug Administration’s accelerated approval pathway. The recommendation is the latest tension point between Medicare and Medicaid regulators and the accelerated approval pathway. “States have expressed concern about paying high prices for drugs approved through the accelerated approval pathway,” MACPAC’s report to Congress said. - Yesterday, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear signed into law a bipartisan measure that’s meant to bolster rural hospitals. The bill expands the Medicaid Hospital Rate Improvement Program to include outpatient care as well as inpatient care. It will support Kentucky hospitals by boosting Medicaid payment rates for outpatient procedures performed at hospitals. The program allows the state to draw down federal funds to pay a supplemental Medicaid payment to hospitals. (Article here)
