- The American College of Physicians released a paper declaring inadequate access to nutrition a threat to public health in the U.S. The organization stated that physicians and other medical professionals need to be empowered to better account for social determinants of health (SDOH). The paper offers several specific recommendations, including urging lawmakers to improve the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to better serve the needs and health of food-insecure individuals and having the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services develop, test, and support innovative models that incorporate benefits related to food-insecurity issues.
