- More than 100 House lawmakers sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services urging the agency to cover medically necessary dental services for Medicare beneficiaries. The request comes as Congress appears unlikely to add dental benefits to traditional Medicare. According to the lawmakers, CMS can expand the authority to include dental service coverage in several scenarios such as if oral or dental bacteria are an underlying cause of a disease like Parkinson’s, if stroke outcomes are worsened by dental infections, or if the beneficiary is being treated for cancer and leukopenia from chemotherapy.
