- The Lown Institute released its ranking of the most socially responsible hospitals, with just 54 out of 3,600 receiving “A” grades for their work across the three main categories of equity, value, and outcomes. The Lown Institute is a health care think tank that launched its Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility in 2020 in an attempt to provide benchmarks for hospitals on how well they serve communities. This year marks the first time that Medicare Advantage claims have been included, in addition to Medicare claims, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) hospital cost reports, tax returns, and other data. - More than 7 in 10 nursing homes would not meet a staffing requirement recommended in a 2001 report commissioned by CMS, a new KFF analysis shows. The Biden administration is soon expected to make every facility have enough trained staff to provide high-quality care, though operators say they can’t hire enough people in the aftermath of the pandemic. The American Health Care Association, which represents both for-profit and nonprofit nursing homes, told the Biden administration this month that a standard would “worsen access to care.” CMS is expected to issue a proposed rule this year.
