- The Senate voted 49-45 Monday night to advance Robert Califf’s nomination to lead the FDA. Five Republicans – Richard Burr, Lisa Murkowski, Roy Blunt, Susan Collins, and Mitt Romney – voted in Califf’s favor. Five Democrats opposed his nomination out of concerns about his ties to the drug industry and handling of opioid drugs. A final vote to confirm Califf’s nomination has not yet been set but could come later this week. (Articles here, here, here, and here)
