  • HHS announced it will invest nearly $150 million in American Rescue Plan to address staffing shortages in rural areas and advance health equity. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) will distribute $60 million to rural communities across 35 states to fund five programs: the Rural Residency Planning and Development Program, Rural Public Health Workforce Training Network Program, Rural Veterans Health Access Program, Small Health Care Provider Quality Improvement Program, and Rural Public Health Workforce Training Network Technical Assistance Program. HRSA will distribute another $90 million to 1,400 communities to support a data modernization effort aimed at better identifying and responding to the specific needs of patients and communities through improved data quality.
