- As substanceuse disorder and alcohol use disorder remain the leading cause of death for those under 50, the Alliance for Addiction Payment Reform is proud to publish a substantial update to the Addiction Recovery Medical Home- Alternative Payment Model, which incorporates learnings and advancements in recent years. The update includes key challenges exacerbated and highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as interoperability, data sharing, and mobile engagement functionality. Learnings from commercial and Medicaid demonstration explorations include payment and data flow examples, analysis recommendations for scoping pilots, and incorporation of industry changes, such as the opportunity for opioid abatement funding to support model development. - On Wednesday, the Food and Drug Administration approved Emergent Biosolutions Inc.’s overdose reversal drug naloxone, called Narcan, for over-the-counter use, a move intended to increase access to the lifesaving medication. Advocates hope that making it available over-the-counter will significantly broaden access, as the people who need naloxone the most are often the least likely to go to a pharmacy and request it because of the stigma surrounding drug use.
