- An Urban Institute study found that installing a $2,000 cap on Medicare Part D out-of-pocket costs could benefit nearly 1 million seniors. According to the study, certain enrollees would also benefit more from the cap based on their expenses. For instance, 40 percent of beneficiaries who had out-of-pocket costs above $2,000 spent up to $2,500. Another 30 percent spent between $2,500 and $3,000. Eighteen percent of beneficiaries spent more than $3,500 in out-of-pocket costs. A $2,000 cap on out-of-pocket Part D costs was included in the Build Back Better Act; however, Congress is still trying to chart a path forward on drug price reform. (Study here)
