- A recent study found that hospitals are seeing more emergency department (ED) visits for mental health (MH) issues after COVID-19 surges, particularly among young adults and racial minority groups. The study found that ED professionals may experience increases in MH-related visits during COVID-19 case surges among Asian persons and after COVID-19 case surges, particularly for adults aged 18 to 24 years and for American Indian or Alaska Native persons. The authors suggest that public health practitioners consider subpopulation-specific messaging and programmatic strategies that address differences in MH prevention and intervention needs across subpopulations, particularly those who have been marginalized in the US.
