- A new Lown Institute report found that hospitals in 15 large U.S. cities delivered primarily racially segregated care. According to the study, at least 50 percent of hospitals in the 10 most segregated cities did not match the demographics of their communities. Detroit had the most racially segregated hospitals, followed by St. Louis and Kansas City. The study also found that 70 percent of hospitals had worse racial inclusivity for elective procedures than their whole patient population, underscoring that the patients getting elective procedures were predominantly white.
