- The federal government is set to announce today the release of almost 800,000 doses of monkeypox vaccine. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said that the doses will be released as soon as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clears them. The FDA approved the two-dose Jynneos vaccine in 2019 for people ages 18 and older who are at high risk of exposure to monkeypox or smallpox. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it is unknown if the vaccines will prevent disease in the current outbreak. (Articles here and here)
