- House Democrats voted 217-204 in a party-line vote to advance two bills that seek to bolster abortion rights. The Women’s Health Protection Act would codify abortion rights into federal law and strengthening protections that were included in the Roe decision. The Ensuring Access to Abortion Act seeks to safeguard women who travel to receive an abortion if their state bans the medical procedure. Meanwhile, more than 80 House Democrats sent a letter to President Biden urging him to issue a national emergency declaration and a public health emergency declaration in response to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. Physicians and poison control officials have also voiced concerns that online misinformation will lead people seeking abortions to turn to ineffective and dangerous methods.
