- The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions committee is scheduled to vote today on Robert Califf’s nomination to lead the FDA. While the committee likely has the votes to pass his nomination, it is unclear if the full Senate will follow. Several Democrats – including Senators Joe Manchin, Bernie Sanders and Maggie Hassan – have already announced their opposition to Califf over concerns about his drug industry ties or the FDA’s record on the opioid epidemic.
