- The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) fined GoodRx Holdings Inc. $1.5 million for allegedly sharing users’ health data with advertising platforms like Meta Platforms Inc.’s Facebook and Alphabet Inc.’s Google. The action is the first of its kind under the FTC’s Health Breach Notification Rule (HBNR). FTC Commissioner Christine Wilson wrote in a statement that concurred with the decision that consumers would likely not have used GoodRx’s services had they known about the “sieve-like data practices” and that the company’s “ill-gotten gains almost certainly constitute a large multiple of the $1.5 million civil penalty.” (Press release here; Articles here, here, and here)
