- The Alliance for Addiction Payment Reform released a new brief that explores how utilizing coordinated and comprehensive medication management (CMM) in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery can enhance access to high quality care. CMM services for SUD have demonstrated a positive impact on access to care, quality of care, patient engagement, patient satisfaction, and treatment retention. The brief notes that the role of clinical pharmacists in optimizing care for SUD is primed to expand dramatically over the next decade, given the projected physician shortage. “Medications for addiction, like other chronic conditions, can be optimized in team-based models that focus on coordination and collaboration, said Kathy Pham, author of the brief and the Director for Policy and Professional Affairs at the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. “Comprehensive medication management supports addiction recovery while addressing co-morbidities through an individualized, patient-centered approach.” (Brief here)
