- Midwest health systems Sanford Health and Marshfield Clinic Health System have announced plans to explore a merger, potentially forming a significant nonprofit entity with 56 hospitals and projected revenues of $10 billion. This merger aims to leverage their complementary assets across Wisconsin, Michigan, and other regions, enhancing patient and community care. Under the proposed arrangement, Marshfield Clinic’s facilities would become a distinct region within Sanford Health, which would serve as the parent company based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The combined entity would employ nearly 56,000 people and 4,300 providers, along with managing two health plans and various research institutions. The deal, outlined in a nonbinding memorandum of understanding, is expected to close by year-end pending regulatory approvals. (Articles here and here)
