- A recent survey found that nearly half of patients have missed or forgotten to pay a bill because of difficulties communicating with their providers’ offices. The survey was conducted in December by Artera, which makes and sells software for patient communications, and reached more than 2,000 patients. The poll aimed to assess provider communication methods and their effectiveness. The survey found that 43% percent of those surveyed reported that communication challenges with providers negatively impacted their health. Nearly 60 percent of patients said they’d be willing to switch doctors if they faced a broken communications experience. (Article here)

The report gave 2,634 out of 6,357 hospitals posting machine-readable files (MRFs) a five-star rating for publishing “a complete MRF that contains cash, list and negotiated rates for a significant quantity of items and services.” That list of top scorers grew 24 percent from the end of 2022 and now represents more than half of the total hospital field. New requirements kick in this year that could see warning letters issued to the public about noncompliant hospitals. (Article here)
