- President Biden said during an interview with “60 Minutes” that the COVID-19 pandemic “over,” but acknowledged there is still a lot of work to do. The president said that the U.S. still has “a problem with COVID,” noting that the pandemic has had a “profound impact on the psyche of the American people.” Last month, the Biden administration extended the public health emergency (PHE) declaration for the pandemic through October 13. According to data from Johns Hopkins University, there were just over 440,000 new COVID-19 cases in the U.S. in the past week, compared with the record high of 5.6 million-plus cases over seven days last January.
