- According to a Kaiser Health News analysis, states have spent little of the $2.25 billion funding the Biden administration provided to them to address COVID-19 health disparities. In May 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) awarded grants to every state health department and 58 large city and county health agencies. A year later, some states and localities have spent only a small proportion of the money. For example, Missouri’s health department has not spent any of its $35.6 million, and Wisconsin, Illinois, and Idaho have each used less than 5 percent of their grant money. Some states say it is because they were addressing health inequity issues before the CDC disparity money, while others “have long been overburdened and they don’t really have enough people to handle it.” (Article here)
