- The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) updated its recommendations on treating childhood obesity for the first time in 15 years. The new guidelines emphasize that obesity is a complex and chronic condition and that intensive behavioral and lifestyle changes should be the first-line approach. However, for the first time, the AAP also includes recommendations for anti-obesity medications and surgery.
