- More than 100,000 people in in the United States died from diabetes last year, representing a 15 percent increase over the pre-pandemic level in 2019. It is the second consecutive year that the number has topped 100,000. An expert panel is calling on Congress to overhaul diabetes care and prevention to branch out from medical care and include social interventions like healthy food promotion, access to affordable housing and paid maternal leave.
