- The federal government announced it no longer supply free at-home COVID-19 tests via the U.S. Postal Service effective Friday, September 2. The announcement, posted to the federal government’s COVID-19 website, said that the program is being suspended because “Congress hasn’t provided additional funding to replenish the nation’s stockpile of tests.” According to a senior official, the government needs to retain tests for a possible rise of infections in the fall; it could resume distribution on a large scale if Congress provides the funding.
