March 16, 2022 – Chicago, IL. Third Horizon Strategies is thrilled to announce that Senior Director Sara Moscato Howe is the 2020 receipt of the Illinois Association for Behavioral Health (IABH) George Schwab Distinguished Service Award.
The George Schwab Distinguished Service Award recognizes an individual who has provided the greatest service to IABH in a given year. The award is given in memory of George Schwab, President of IADDA (currently IABH) from 1979-1980, who symbolized the sacrifice and commitment of professionals in the field. Nominees are individuals who have made significant personal contributions to IABH and to the behavioral health care field and have contributed leadership and expertise in the development of public policy. IABH canceled the award ceremony last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and reconvened this year for the 2020 and 2021 awards.
“Sara demonstrated excellence every day in her advocacy for the fields of mental health and substance use prevention and treatment, as well as in her responsiveness to members of the association,” said Jeffrey Collord, IABH Board Chair and Vice President of Operations, Haymarket Center. “It was our honor to present her with this award.”
Shea Haury, Executive Director of CommWell and IABH Board Vice Chair, presented the award to Sara, noting her tremendous value to both IABH and the fields of substance use disorders and mental health treatment over many years.
“I am so humbled to receive the George Schwab Distinguished Service Award and hear of the positive impact I have made in my career with IABH,” Sara said. “It has been my greatest honor to work alongside fierce, passionate leaders like Jeffrey, Shea, Jud, and countless others through the years who are truly committed to improving lives for Illinois’ individuals, families and communities. IABH will always have a special place in my heart.”
Sara served as the CEO of the IABH for nearly 15 years. During her tenure with IABH, she led the association through a significant mission and membership expansion. She continues to serve as an advisor to IABH.
“Sara’s passion for supporting our state’s mental health resources and systems knows no bounds and her work has indisputably touched the lives of people throughout the state, most of whom she will never know,” said David Smith, founder and CEO of Third Horizon Strategies. “It was moving to witness a colleague and friend receiving recognition for their tireless work improving the lives of others.”
