- The Senate voted 50-48 to lift the debt limit until December after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell reached a deal. The Senate amended the House bill, which passed 219-212, replacing a longer debt ceiling suspension with a $480 billion increase in the Treasury Department’s borrowing cap designed to last into early December, though it may go a little longer.
