- OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family have struck an agreement to pay up to $6 billion to settle lawsuits over the company’s role in fueling the opioid crisis. The new settlement is up from the $4.55 deal reached last year and is contingent upon approval from U.S. bankruptcy Judge Robert Drain. The new agreement, reached after eight states and the District of Columbia ultimately appealed a previous deal, is civil and does not provide protection to the Sackler families from any future liability relating to the opioid crisis.
