- A new Deloitte analysis predicts that disparate health outcomes could cost the U.S. health care system $1 trillion annually by 2040, nearly tripling in size over the next 20 years and accounting for nearly 12.5 percent of health care spending. According to the analysis, the cost of excess health services delivered due to disparities is $320 billion annually, and the rate of increase outpaces overall cost trends. The report recommends adopting value-based care models, creating cross-sector partnerships, unifying health care data infrastructure, and ensuring diversity in data collection efforts to end health disparities and curb the rising cost of health care.
