- A new analysis from the Urban Institute found that parents in low-income households (at or below 138 percent of federal poverty level) face greater challenges in addressing health needs than other parents. Parents in low-income households were more than nine times as likely to be uninsured than the higher-income category. They were also more than seven times as likely to report struggling to pay family medical bills and were more likely to be worried about food insecurity and being able to pay expenses like rent or utilities in the next month. More than a quarter of parents in low-income households reported being in fair or poor health, compared to only about 4 percent of parents with higher incomes. (Report here)
