- An article in Treatment Magazine describes the need for value-based substance use disorder treatment, highlighting insights from Greg Williams, Third Horizon Strategies Managing Partner and Manager of the Alliance for Addiction Payment Reform (Alliance). The article captures Greg’s personal recovery experience, particularly with petitioning the insurance company to pay for treatment. “There’s a clinical appetite to stay with people, to continue to coach and support them. The largest hurdle is really the fragmented payer space,” Greg said. The Alliance’s Addiction Recovery Medical Home model seeks to address that payment issue and incorporate the principles of value-based care. For example, Anthem recently partnered with Nuvance Health to pilot the model. As Eric Bailly, a business solutions director at Anthem who oversees SUD strategy, noted, “This [ARMH] model really is conscientious that as someone is navigating through the system, from a payment perspective there’s an incentive to make sure that person is monitored over the long term.” (Article here)
